Feedback on Kitchen

We would welcome feedback on this kitchen design and features. We have had to do more of the design ourselves than we wanted so any feedback - good/bad/ugly - is welcome.

Notes

- Pulls / backplash not yet selected

- Floor will not be a white tile but rather a Tevere Ceniza 8"X45" - image below

- Appliances will all be Miele, with double ovens. No built in coffee-maker

- Island colour is Sherwin Williams Naval

Your flooring is very similar to mine! I would have done my backsplash with the same material as the countertop if I had picked a different counter…that was by far the hardest selection and I still don’t like what I chose. I like the way your mock up looks. I also toyed with the idea of a different color island but I’m glad I didn’t do that. I’m a realtor and none of the new builds I see have the two toned kitchens anymore. Just food for thought. Here is my kitchen so you can see similar finishes.

Thank you for the feedback and the photos. Did you complete your kitchen recently? It has been very difficult to get appliances and materials. I like the pulls you used!

@K R - I love your pulls! Do you have a link? thanks!

I think I would hinge the refrigerator the other way? This has the downside of making the island behind you the set down space but the upside of opening into the kitchen work triangle. This upside is probably minimal.

But the reason I would not have the fridge open against the ovens is that someone is bound to open the fridge when the oven door is open. I know someone who had this happen at their housewarming party right after they moved in and when they sold the house just a few years later the dent and scratches in the fridge door were a bargaining chip. The doors hitting each other happened more than once because multiple people worked in the kitchen.

I appreciate the comment. The fridge will indeed open away from the ovens!

Please reconsider the gray wood-look floor and pick up some samples of mid-tone, neutral browns. A more natural-colored floor will add some much needed warmth to your white and gray finishes and give your kitchen more longevity and versatility. IMHO, the gray wood-look floor trend is a ship that has sailed.

If your floor is anything like mine it looks more like a light oak in natural light. It’s not full on gray by any means. (I agree about gray being on its way out, but your floor doesn’t look gray-gray to me) We finished the remodel in 2019 so it was a bit easier to get things then. Hi Debbi, thank you for the detailed feedback.

    - "What is through that door?" Our pantry. And yes, we have considered landing zones.

    - RE: sink placement. We have the sink centered in the same way as our previous home which worked well for us. We have 48 inches which was more than adequate for us.

    - The island is 135 inches long, and I can't see how wide, but we will have a seam and are ok with that - duly noted regarding matching of the patterns!

    - RE: Hood. We agree, it is too plain. But we are also trying to work within a budget as the hoods we like are in the $10K range and frankly it's outside what we want to spend.

    - Floor: we are a bit worried about it being too gray as well. We are going back to the showroom.

    - Drawers and storage: we have a lot of storage in the pantry, which is 6 feet long

    again, really appreicate your feedback!

Why not move the wall ovens to the same wall as the cooktop, then you will have a cooking zone and have extra pantry space by the fridge so all the food can be stored together. Also, your fridge won’t have to work extra hard to combat the heat coming from the ovens. Do you envisage 6 people sitting at the island at one time? Is this your only dining area?

Hi Andrea, thanks for the feedback.

RE: island size. Yes we do envisage 6 people at one time. But we also have a dining room where we will eat as well that will have seating for 10 people.

RE: fridge placement: it was cheaper and more aesthetically pleasing (for us) to have the oven on the wall with the fridge.

Note: we also have a 6 foot x 11 foot pantry off the kitchen and so have ample storage space.

Feedback is very helpful and much appreciated!
