Can you post a picture of the antique asian cabinets?

i like the idea of built in adjustable shelves. it looks more like a wall to wall unit and its more o a grand completed look as oppose to putting in external cabinets.

16 deep is very deep for shelves of this sort unless you have something specific on them that requires that depth. I would probably go for the cabinets.

I think the Asian cabinet fights the soapstone, so I would go with adjustable shelves.

IMO a wall of soapstone should not be interrupted with shelving so some cabinet on either side woiuld be my choice . BTW I finf most shelving just is full of stuff that does not need to be displayed . I think a linear FP is contemporary so the only way I would do shelves id if you have an amazing collection of white pottery pieces .I agree the Asian cabinets need to be stars somwhere else not fighting that soapstone wall.

Regarding your image with a tv above your linear fireplace...I have a 48" linear and it puts out so much heat after warming up for 15-20 min. Does yours have the heat release by the ceiling? If not, be careful, especially since your whole area will be covered in soapstone. "For centuries, soapstone has been known for its ability to retain heat. Other natural stones, such as granite and marble, also hold and radiate heat, but only soapstone has the added benefit of being able to withstand direct flames indefinitely". I have a hollow metal mantel between my fp and the tv. It blocks the heat efficiently.

Cool design, just worried about the future of your tv. And...I love the antique cabinets.
