I would hang draperies (high) to add color and pattern and replace those lights with LED cans to simplify the ceiling. Your area rug is way too small so swap it out for a large (under the whole seating area) interesting one. You lack color and texture. I would also go shopping for pillows to add that texture. Your artwork looks interesting and substantial. I guess its drab because of lack of color, texture and pattern. I also think that the seating arrangement can be improved. I think that youre going to get a lot of excellent ideas from your question. Happy shopping!

ETA I love your windows and doors!

    Rug with color?

There are permanent elements of lighting, and black windows plenty -- and your items are interesting, and 'enough' it seems... how about painting wall [s]?

It's early in your process ... and we'd like to see the other walls too ... but the unadorned window/door wall interests me, for curtains or accent wall...

I like the space but I do not like the rugs over layed so a bigger rug for sure and all that yellow huesd lighting needs to go use LED bulbs in at least 3500K I prefer 4000K but anything less yellow. I like th windows bare they are a real part of the space . If you need to control heat or UV then solar shades and also do you need nightime privacy .

You have a great base to work with.

The doors and windows are magnificent!!

    Love your pieces.

    Lighting is key.

I’d go with a larger rug.

And then just add personal accents.
    With pops of color.

I especially like a brown leather with the current color scheme.

See photo below, notice more vibrant art, plants, pillows, shades, curtains....

Not saying this matches your lady art and the others - but it could be lively - and not 'interfere' with chairs' geometric pattern.

If a few items were "edited out," maybe this enlarged tablecloth look !?

I like plaster-pink colors for walls - this pattern could sit in center of doorway, if sofas were about same distance. Also, it's not Halloween orange, but copper.

OMG, I am in love with those windows and agree not to cover them up if you don't have to. I think you do have some great color in your art on the left side of the space. I think a nice big rug to bring in some texture would be amazing!

Most unadorned windows SCREAM blah/just moved in/ fix me; but not yours. They really stand alone as is. I would lose the coffee table that looks like a bench. Find a table substantial enough to place in a corner made by moving the one couch where the chair is and use the chairs across the room. Then the square ottoman can be table for both couches. The small circle table can go between the chairs, if it's tall enough. Don't think there's room but the sofa table then could go in the walk way behind the cornered sofa..move the other against the wall. The sofa and table as is, is a silly waste of floor space. Keeping the palate subdued, assuming you don't want color, you for sure need a larger floor rug, and pillows with texture; fringe, chunky weave, crochet instead.

Nice room. The only changes I would make are some softening with curtains, bigger rug. Move wall art from sofa wall to opposite and get a bigger ones.

I'm with arcy_gw in that certainly no curtains on those beautiful windows. Love your room just as it is, except agree with a larger rug. Also agree with Rachel, it is beautiful and calm, not at all boring!

Oops, have to say Celery's version with the white curtains, and larger rug, looks very nice!

New day so I see it a little differently - with the mix of neutrals and patterns, and windows, a couple modern large-pattern abstract would top if off well, imo.

But - with the warmth of the lady and green pieces, I see the need to balance with similar in somewhat large item [like rug]... a bit boho?

almost easier to choose the first look, or the second, or other look...

You have a great base to work with and beautiful pieces (I’m jealous!). I think it lacks some cohesion—looks like two couches reflecting one another rather than one space. Agree to get a big rug to center it, draw couches closer to one another (maybe aligned with spaces between windows and doors?). Not sure what that does for the pair of chairs though…and that large, colorful painting, is put that above the couch to balance out the big window over the other couch. More colorful pillows will liven it too.

Love the room, the windows and your pieces. The windows are beautiful. I wouldn’t cover them. I would get a larger rug and play with the furniture arrangement. What about moving sofas off the walls closer to each other using the square ottoman as the coffee table. Have you tried moving the chairs closer to each other not at an angle? I would also add a few large plants. If the square ottoman is moved to the center of the room you can work the rest of the furniture around it.

I love your space! I am usually all about curtains,,,, but your windows are not the kind I would cover with curtains. If you did... I like the mock up of just the two with curtains. I would go with something light and airy and not bright white.

I think if you could pull the sofas more into the room that would look great. They seem isolated and not cohesive the way they are up against the wall. I see the one on the left is already pushed father into the room bc of the sofa table. Perhaps pushing the other forward more would work.

I would get a larger rug that would go under both sofas. If you do keep the bench like coffee table I would love to see it stained or darker for a bit contrast.

Finally, I am a massive fan of lamps to make the room have some mid lighting for the cozy factor. I would use those in leu of the big overhead balls.

You have wonderful pieces to work with and a wonderful room that is very interesting. I also love your artwork.

I love, love your furniture arrangement! You have great taste and a good eye!

I would not add drapes at all. Those windows are great and really work with your room.

Honestly, the only thing I would add is an area rug that is large enough to connect the two sofas.

I really do love the two sofas apart, with their own arrangement of furniture, it's such a great look. The calmness of the room, is what brings me in. Finding the right area rug is key.

If you choose to update the room, please post a picture for us to see.

If I look at the right and left separately, they look perfect. But together, looks like a traffic area in between to the doors. Bigger rug and pull couches in to create one seating area rather than two. Some big abstract art

Theres a lot of good ideas here. I agree with the njmomma, keep everyone updated and post your progress. You have great bones to work with, those windows and doors are to die for,

Great suggestions and yes you have a great space.

I totally agree with AKtillery's suggestion to move the sofas close to each other.

I also think a larger rug, (and I like some of the ones everdebz posted but obviously your choice if you want to stay more monochrome-)would be great.
