#2 is lighter. If you’re going for dark then #1.

None of those you pictured. You point out in your subject title that your counter is busy. Therefore you must not pick a backsplash that is also busy. All those you’ve pictured have multiple colors and so many grout lines. So, your backsplash instead needs to be one quiet color, and no teeny tiles. Also note that multicolored skinny tiles are dated.

Start fresh and look for a quiet single color tile.

Sometimes no backsplash also looks nice. you dont always need one.

Can you post a picture of the kitchen from a distance so we can see your cabinets flooring wall color etc…? Hard to recommend w/o it.

I agree with the others that a solid color backsplash would look best. It would be good if you can post a picture of the kitchen with the floors and cabinets also to help you.

That style of backsplash was trending 12 years ago ... unfortunately there must still be some large warehouses in China full of them and they keep shipping them over here!

Again, it is pretty much a wild guess if grey or white would work when we are only looking at tiny section of your granite and have no idea what else is going on in the kitchen. If you don‘t want to post a picture that is ok, but you would get more help if you did.

You appear to already have a 4" granite backsplash. No additional tile should be added on top of that. You can see in the image below that it has a terrible final appearance. No tile.

What Beverly said, and nope to your tile selections. I think people get caught up sometimes and select tiles that have all of the different counter colors incorporated for a backsplash because it seems like a good idea. Its just crazy busy, and does nothing to compliment the counter stone. All of those elements just make a mish mash of colors and you cant appreciate either. Go for a simpler backsplash (after the removal of the original one) you wont end up regretting it.

I have a busy counter, and did backpainted glass for my backsplash. the beauty of it is that it can be ANY color, you could have it painted to bring out one of the colors in your counter. simple, beautiful and very easy to clean. and i have heard that since more places are doing it, the price has become much more reasonable

The best backsplash for a “busy” counter is a simple, solid color backsplash tile which matches one light or mid-tone color in the counter material. Any pattern in the backsplash will fight with the pattern in the counter.

Just emphasizing what @BeverlyFLADeziner noted and pictured above. Are you removing the 3" strip of granite backsplash? If that is staying, then you should not tile above it.

Hi are your countertops Formica?
If so keep the backsplash very simple…go with a matte finished tile with the warm tone of your tiled floors to pull it all together.

What color is that counter? Have you tried searching for pictures of it in a kitchen?

Depending on how varied it is throughout, it doesn't feel so busy that you have to do a boring solid color splash. However, you do have to be careful what you choose. Defaulting to white or gray is not the answer here either.

What color are your cabinets? What about the floor? All these things will influence your decision.

I agree with Beverly. you already have a backsplash and don't need to add above it.

if you really must do tile, remove the short backsplash and choose something all one color, I'd recommend something like off white or cream, with matching grout. anything else will look way too busy. sorry but the sample mosaic tiles you posted above are dated.

I would suggest you don't involve your husband. I agree with CarrieB. Simple solid color, perhaps in a large 2 x 8 herringbone pattern for a little flare.
