I bought my washer and dryer at the same time, worked without issues until the washing machine died, not worth the repair (due to age) so I replaced it. Dryer still going strong. What happens when it’s an all in one unit? I would only consider a stacked unit if I didn’t have the space for side by side, and even then I’d do everything I could to find the space. But that might be because I’ve never had a stacked unit and old habits, etc.

Ive had both. If youre short, its a pain to reach into the back of the dryer and to read the buttons on the dryer when they are stacked. In my new laundry room, with the thought of aging in place, I have my washer and dryer on 18” pedestals which brings everything up to eye level. there wont be squatting to grab laundry from the back of the washer, then throw it in the dryer above. When I was younger stackable was fine, but now with an eye to the future, I want ease of use. Sometimes your choices depend on where you are in life.

My mother-in-law has the LG wash tower and she loves it, she's 5' or less and ~75 years old. Highly efficient and fast unit.

You can reach the controls with no issue.

However........were I buying new apps? Nothing could keep me from a Speed Queen TOP LOAD If at all possible. How many in the family? How disciplined are your habits? Do you load and forget? Or do you completely finish the task? Are you one story or two? Etc......

We are considering combing spaces in out house so that would be 2 bathrooms and a laundry space making the 2 bathrooms a bit bigger and stacking the laundry . Ours is on the main floor first time for that . I love it there and we had a stacking W/D before and had no issues with it so looking forward to that again.. The only time I have used the all in one type is in Europe and they take forever to do a load. I also love front loaders the amount of wash you can do at one time is amazing , so little detergent needed for a load and the spin cuts the drying time too. BTW I have never had a laundry sink and honestly with new washers the wash cycles are so specific you really do not need one IMO.

I prefer the stacked format, because the dryer is at a more comfortable height and I only have to bend down for 1 rather than 2 appliances. I'm 5' 6.5", for what it's worth. Mud room or near the master bedroom? For me, near the bedroom would be my preferred, since I don't have any kids so almost all the laundry is generated in my bedroom or bathroom. I think hey should be placed where they're most convenient, and that will depend on the design of your home, the size of the rooms, and the size of your household.
