Is your concern that one room has the wainscotting and the other doesn't? I don't see that as an issue.

IMO the wainscoting shown is way too high and honestly I like art hung on walls and that will pretty much eliminate the aboility to hang art at ecen close to the proper height. I aslo dislike wainscoting in only one space in a house .

Your concern seems to be more about the style of the trim rather than the use of wainscoting. The trim shown on the inspiration pic is more Craftsman and the rest of the house is more classic Colonial. Ideally all trim is the same style but when working with an existing house and doing remodeling, that is often not the case. Plus, trim is expensive so people don't usually change it all out at the same time.

You could meet in the middle and dress up the wainscoting with a bit of milled trim that isn't quite as colonial as your existing but not quite as craftsman as the inspiration pic with a wainscot cap and baseboard.

It is 9 ft ceilings so we were looking to do a little bit higher wainscoting but it appears a more traditional colonial wouldn't go as high.

We do a bit of mix and matching in the house in terms of furniture style, that room has a mid-century sideboard and table with windsor chairs. If we had out choice we wouldn't be in a colonial style house but options in our town are very limited.

I'm going to have to play around with the more traditional colonial wainscoting and see how it looks with those furniture pieces. I think we may have to do wainscoting that fits the house versus fits the furniture style. Probably the best option from a resale standpoint. We really want to get rid of the oak molding (so much oak...) and trying to update around that process.
