The top picture would be an acceptable joint ONLY if the pipe threads were cut at the odd angle you see. Theoretically possible. I have seen off-angles on threaded fittings. Never seen it on pipe, as yet.

Sure looks cross threaded to me.

The answer is usually to back it out, replace the brass fitting, and hope you don't have issues when it's properly threaded.

The likelihood of that leaking is high - even with all the pipe dope.

That Iron pipe needs to be cut off square, rethreaded and the brass fitting replaced, ie start all over again.

I could be wrong about this, but I will mention it anyway. Click on the photo and look at it carefully. I think the Teflon tape may be creating an optical illusion. The fitting seems to be inline with the pipe. However to remove all doubt the fitting should be checked to see if it is cross threaded.

In the top photo, the connection (not just the Pex) appears to be slanted downward. In the second photo, it seems level.

Is the hard pipe this Pex is connected to black pipe? I didn't think that was permitted for water.
