LOTS of pine!!!

I wood paint the walls a warm white color but you will have others " dont' paint wood" or they will say paint ceiling LOL. I guess a mock up may help you decide

maybe someone could do a mock up with white paint on the walls to give you a visual. That would have been my first thought too, white or cream walls to break up all the wood.

Yes you need some paint! A creamy white would be nice. I’ve also seen a soft, sage green look really pretty with the orangish walls. Maybe do a different bottom color in the areas where the pine runs vertically under the chair rail?

Large area rug in sofa area and also bedside. Maybe a carpet runner on the stairs. Pictures hung in the stairwell are too much the wood tone of the pine. Switch out to something bigger and in contrast.

Thank you everyone! I am thinking we may start by painting living room ceiling and adding a big area rug as suggested and see where we go from there. :) We are only able to start in late spring so ill try to post pics then. Pics on the walls and some furniture may also be switched out as this is what came with the cottage when we purchased it.

I would leave the ceiling and floors wood. Paint the walls and doors.
