Help With Tiles

Hello,

I am about to close on a 4 story townhouse soon but absolutely hate the tiles the builders installed (pic attached). I was told they were going to be grey but they are more beige/taupe.

Since the tiles are on every level of the home, it would be very costly to replace them. Is there anything I can do to give them a grey appearance e.g. tint or glaze?

4 storys, i hope you have an elevator! lol.It would be a ridiculous amount to demo and retiling replace your floors. I would rate it $$$$$ You have to go with option 2 and make them work. There is no glaze or overlay that will permanently change the color without you being sorry you did it. The next option is change the color perception with what you choose to decorate with. The colors you choose for walls, rugs, furniture, window treatments and really everything will have an effect on the perception of the color of your floor. There are many people on this forum who are great with color and will help you. I think it will boil down to furnishings. Good luck and i hope you get great advice.

Oh man I wish people would stop with the tile floors!! Bottom floor of a very warm climate maybe..but in the end they are HARD and thus tough on joints. But even more so, because as you will discover they pretty much are permanent. The demo will be a game over for most. What a PITB. So sorry someone made such a permanent choice where future owners different tastes and changeability should have been considered.

I can see the points arcy-gw made, but i totally disagree with taking some “future owners“ taste into consideration, its your home and unless youre selling soon, make it your home. Having said that, my home in Florida is fully tiled as are most, I have noticed a difference (with hardness) coming from a home with all hardwood. Wood is much harder to maintain here, because of slabs and humidity. Your choices depend sometimes on your climate so blanket opinions dont really work although you hear them here a lot.

Congrats on the new home! They are pretty neutral. Lighting affects the prominence of color undertones. Maybe live with them a little bit, add area rugs, furniture and they become lots less prominent and you won't be focused on them. I just bought a gorgeous area rug off of Overstock-- bargainacious and beautiful :) . Think of your floors as a mere canvas for your art. Just a thought :)

I would start by changing all the lighting to LED 4000K. Sorry I am a gray over beige anytime. I do agree some rugs will help but at least all the same lighting will keep them all looking the same. BTW trends are not how you decorate your home unless of course you can afford to follow all the trends .IMO if you like cool colors then use them no matter whatMaria Killam says.

This could so easily have been avoided with a simple review and sign-off requirement. Same thing with counters for layout on your slabs to use the natural pattern. And for counter seams. Inspect, review, take pictures.

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback. I really appreciate all of the input, it definitely put me at ease. I ended up deciding to biting the bullet and have gray tiles installed.
