yeah was not the ideal timing, so much water while they were not established can be hard. We also had a few cold nights and not sure where you are exactly in NorCal but the damages could look like mild frost bites. These agaves don't do too well with frost and wet mostly younglings and not established. It gets better as they mature so if the center leaves and root base still feel hard to the touch they should recover. I would watch the coming weather for the next months and maybe cover them at night when temps near frost and during the day to protect from too much sun until established, like throw some window screen over them.

That is A. attenuata, a very tender agave that is suffering from frost damage. They are fast growers, so could come out of this OK, but not if they continue to be subjected to sub-freezing temps.

I had the same happen to my Agave before I got the chance to bring them in for the winter. I sprayed my down once a week with Ortho MAX Garden Disease Control (stuff sold for rose bushes). Did the job and they regrew new healthy leaves. I cut off the rotted spotted leaves as well.

Since both plants were already planted in December, I cannot move them indoor. I have since cover them with cardboard boxes at night time and lift for sun during the day. The leaves look awful, with browning for a big chunk of each piece! Hopefully they can survive!

I had thought 9b would be sufficient for Agave Attenuata. I will watch for weather forecast more careful for Jan/Feb.

The old story here is for succulents; water + cold = rot. Keep as dry as possible while cold.
