How do you use Lemon Thyme?

Last summer I finally got a good deal of Lemon Thyme to grow. I like the fragrance. I dont know what variety of 'normal' thyme I have but it is a strong, pungent flavored one and the lemon thyme does not smell like that at all. The lemon thyme is sort of a herbaceous lemon. My plants were still young so maturity might bring in other notes to the scent.

How do you use lemon thyme in cooking? I have one lonely recipe from an issue of Gourmet magazine for sugar cookies using lemon thyme. I have not tried it yet. Everything else I look up becomes lemon + thyme. Maybe add it to lightly sauteed zucchini? Or a clear soup?

I am perfectly happy with it just growing in my garden and I smell it as I pass by. Just wondering what you might be doing with it?

When you do your search, be sure to put "lemon thyme" in quotation marks, that will force your search engine to treat the words as a unit or phrase when applying its boolean operations.

Anyways, you can use lemon thyme in any dish where you would use thyme and might enjoy a bit more fruitiness and a slightly milder flavor. Poultry and milder seafoods take it quite well. Certain baked goods can benefit from lemon thyme, as well (same with lavender thyme, which is more floral rather than fruity). I'd go for the regular thyme in things like beef or tomato sauce (oregano thyme is really great for that if you can find it).

I agree that you can use it anywhere you use thyme. It is great in Chicken Soup.

Thank you folks! I look forward to spring when my lemon thyme plants put on new growth and I can cook with it. Easiest will be some roast chicken and a chicken soup!

@BlueberryBundtcake - 6a/5b MA: I ordered an orange thyme plant from Richter's for this spring and thought I was getting carried away or being extravagant because I already have two types of thyme. Now since you are telling me about lavender thyme and oregano thyme......I am thinking I might need a few more types. I looked back at Richter's and they do have a lavender thyme and a rose thyme but no oregano thyme. But guess what, I ordered an oregano thyme mint! And last year I got a lavender mint!! Thank you for your tips. I am going to have a lot of fun cooking this season.

Rose petal thyme? Really?

I've been looking for other good uses of it. Definitely great for cooking especially chicken!

I use it most on roasted veggies. Toss veggies with olive oil, lemon thyme and fresh basil, arrange on cookie sheet, then sprinkle some lemon pepper over all … very good.
