Aloe is a tough plant and thrives on benign neglect. I see some minor damage but nothing life threatening. It looks pretty good, and I wouldn't do much to it. Next time you have a burn or something, cut off the worst looking leaf and use the gel from it.

Water it only when it's completely dried out ... if the dirt is still moist, don't water it yet ... not sure? stick your finger down in to check.

Ours get light enough to fall over and suffer no harm from the dehydration of their medium. One of our aloes actually fell out of its dirt; we stuffed it back in when we noticed after a while, and it was fine. We had another that got abandonned in the basement for a year, and it was fine, too.

The fastest way to kill an aloe plant? Overlove it.

That looks to be Aloe vera var. chinensis. It is often just a floppy plant and really, tends to be more of a ground cover in semi-tropical areas. Try giving it more light and make sure soil never stays soggy. Aloe vera var. barbadensis (or just Aloe barbadensis) is a more rigid and upright Aloe vera variety. You might like that one better, although it gets larger in all dimensions.
