It's a nice light fixture. What other ceiling lights are there if any in adjacent spaces and the style of those lights? I would consider taking it down and spray paint it the sheen that goes with the pretty artwork frame (silver?). Without seeing the rest of your space or nearby not sure why it is black.

If linear would be center, then isn’t any light off center, including what you have? I do think you need something slightly larger in scale, and if off center, then on a chain, that can be looped to center. Would also do a matching finish to your picture frame

Thank you. We have no other fixtures. We recently replaced some pendants in the kitchen to can lights. There were two smaller pendants, one over the counter and the other in the middle of the kitchen same finish as dining light which provided barely any light. I don’t mind the fixture, here when we moved in however my husband hates it. I was considering possibly gold tone (as in print) but not sure given we live in a small, open floor plan townhouse. We recently replaced the black cabinet hardware to the stainless - uncertain If a gold fixture would work with the kitchen being in close proximity with stainless appliances and stainless cabinet pulls? I had wanted to give gold tone cabinet hardware a try but the hubs didn’t care for that finish…constant game if picking my battles!

Thank you RTPaige and judianna. Yes, the rug is def too small. I brought home a smaller size rug to see how I liked the color. While trying to decide if I was going to keep it my dog threw up on it! It may well have been his way of saying no to the rug. Since I can’t return it I decided to leave as is, no where else I can use it

Has your husband indicated just what it is that he does not like about the current light?
If not his personal taste that is much different than if he does not like the type or amount of illumination it gives. Maybe he does not like open bulbs and prefers a closed fixture. If you have not discussed that, start there before actually choosing a new fixture

No reason given other than he just doesn’t like it . He doesn’t mind the exposed bulbs and it’s more now that we can’t agree on style and size. Thank you

I agree with rtpaige. Decor is a woman’s issue and right : haha. I like your current light. I am lucky regarding decor, as my husband leaves all the renovation choices up to me; even decorating the Christmas tree.

It feels like something with elegant arms would fill the space nicely.

Get an electrician in to center the lighting above the table. If it’s too difficult to repair the old hole, get a large ceiling medallion to cover it up. The medallions come in different sizes and different styles (Home Depot). Your existing fixture is too high, it should be no more than 36” above the table. If you cannot replace the rug to a larger size then take it away completely. If you cannot find another spot for it in the house then give it away. Better having no rug than a small rug.

IMO it would depend on the linear light I think the table is small so it might be difficult to find a linear fixture that does not overpower the table If thta light is centered then look for linear fixture with a center mount

I wished I would have realized the current electrical spot wasn’t centered over the table when we had the original ceiling medallion removed prior to all the ceilings on the first floor being painted a few months ago Also, this is a different table than what we had when we first moved in, several inches longer than our other one( used in our kitchen in our previous home and it had seen better days) It was difficult trying to find a small size table to fit in our small size dining area-going from a 3000 sq ft home to 1950 sq foot home has been challenging but a breeze to clean and maintain!

Hi, jonnyt. Such a challenge to sift through the zillions of lighting options. What are the dimensions of your table, and what is the diameter of your current fixture? I like the black…looks like your stools have black or charcoal fabric. Silver works, too.

After you change the fixture (I like the black one too - I have it over my kitchen table) get a larger rug to spice up the area. Something geometric? Black and white?

I can’t recall the dimensions of the fixture I brought home, happened to see it at Homesense. When I held it over the table it felt like it was almost as wide as the table The chair covers are cotton although I also have covers to change them out I wouldn’t mind a brass and black mix but I also really like the first light you posted

I wouldn't rush it. A chandelier is a room's jewelry.  I spent 14 years looking for my DR chandelier. However, I like vintage pieces. They are made so much better than new fixtures.
