I really think it's the wrong picture for the spot. You could get a larger frame, but them the image will look small and lost in a huge frame.

Buy a larger print of the Last Supper - if you really love it.

Wider matt and bigger frame

It looks small because it is too small for that large wall. If you have a more narrow wall in your dining room, you could hang it above a buffet and make it part of a vignette so it is more proportional and still has a place of prominence.

A cross stitch by your aunt? Such a wonderful family treasure! The others are correct though, it's too small on its own for that wall and a larger frame/mat will not help. However, there is another option - make your cross stitch a part of a picture/art gallery wall.

The only way I can see making it larger is with a very large mat and a hefty frame that is thick.

You need to place it someplace where people are naturally close up to it and can admire the details. Not only is it lost overall on that big wall, but the distance at which you would see it makes it impossible to make out. Find a different place for this one, and get a larger work for this room.

Anything can be done; it just depends on how much $$ you are willing to spend and the time and effort it takes to get we’re you want to go with this! This painting was not quite large enough for the very big wall the homeowners wanted it on. I painted a “ frame” on the wall in blue and applied simple picture frame molding that I goldleafed to the edges . Large sconces gave the whole thing a larger presence .

Here’s your art done the same way only I reframed it, used a lighter matte and ornate gold frame to make the rich jewel tones in the needlework really shine! Painted the background on the wall the softer orange color and added molding. Simple sconces.

I thought mine was small! Wonder what your aunt did hers on. Mine is on linen and that is about as small as x-stitch gets!!
