Finish burning it in the back yard fire put and buy a new table.

Or spend a couple of months sandng off the finish and sandng out the scorch. Then learn how to stain it without splotching. Then buy a sprayer and learn how to use it to spray. Then buy $140 gallon coating and spray her down.

Better pics of the damage would help, but I suspect that black spot is deep. If it's solid wood, you can sand it down and refinish -- but I see wear spots along the edge that make me think it's a veneer. You could apply new veneer over the entire top. Or you could embrace it and cover the entire table top in a sheet of plexigrass. :)

Have you determined if the table is real wood or pressed/fake wood?

Check out some videos on YouTube. I like Katie Scott salvaged by K. Scott. Also, she recently posted a video on how to tell if it’s a veneer. Both can be refinished but a lighter sanding is needed for the veneer.

If it's solid wood, strip, sand, and refinish. If not, table runner. :)
