How do you guys store your Perlite

I get my Perlite at the local Hydro store. Quality is good. It is - handled properly from receiving to shelf placement - where it's not just dust even - #3 grade, etc from poor handling. It's such a PITA to store though. I usually end up putting it in it's own large rectangular cardboard box (sized almost for a 2CU Bag), and just cut the box down lower as I use it up. The box basically serves one purpose. It's structurally hard so as things get moved around, etc - the perlite still remains -uncrushed-

Is it just me or do you guys hate storing Perlite. Everything else in the world of gardening - I can toss around but the Perlite just needs special handling

I have never found that to be true. Mine gets stored in the bag it came in in a large Rubbermaid storage unit (no shed or garage....or basement) until it gets mixed up with my other potting soil components. What is not immediately used gets stored in a lidded plastic totes.....3 different formulations of potting mix.

Never encountered any serious "crushing" issues.

I guess I'm treating it like white gold ;-)

It's not something I would just put a piece of tape over the open bag and just plop it on a corner for me. I've done that and things get moved around, shifted, and next thing ya know, there is more #1.5 grade perlite in the bag than the #3 that it started out with.

Ha, I even go out of my way to drive to this particular Hydro. shop as I know their stuff has been handled proper....
