Hi Ross - I’m certainly no pro but I think you’ve done a beautiful job! I like the fireplace as is. I’m sure some pros will chime in on some suggestions, but I like this a lot. 👍🏻

How accurate are the colors in the pictures? If accurate, I would leave the stone - it is great! What bothers me is the white mantel and white granite(?) surrounding the fire box. I'd do both in a more ebony or dark brown/bronze color. Also update the items on the mantle...lean some artwork (make sure there is space between the tops of the pictures and the ceiling), and add a couple of statement decor pieces. A bit of asymmetry over the firebox would be nice.

You have a lovely room that could just use a couple of tweeks.

On my monitor the fireplace tends toward pink whereas the wall color has more yellow-green to it. If this is true, I suggest that you hire a color consultant to help you choose a different wall color. I agree with painting out the white strip on the top of the fireplace.

Totally agree with the comment on the mirror....maybe scoot the mirror over to one side and layer a piece of art over it.

You could paint the wall above the fireplace a lighter brown...something to pick up on the tan color in the stone that will also work with the rest of the brown paint in the room. In the photo, it looks very short and wide, and I think having the color tones more continuous and less chopped up will help. Also a wood or limestone mantle would work well with your color scheme.

My last thought is to add some greenery. Maybe a plant on the mantle that hangs down?

The fireplace as a whole is beautiful and pleasing to the eye. My initial thought would be adding an appropriate tile border around the insert. Then perhaps a slightly more substantial mantle, in wood.

Beautiful room and I LOVE the fireplace. Don't mess with that stone. A chunkier mantel would be nice but not necessary. I would declutter the mantel and move the photos elsewhere and put some nice pottery.

I would paint it with white

I find the brown wall color a bit dreary…would paint it white along with the fireplace wall. Have you tried rearranging the furniture so that the sofa faces the fireplace? And putting the chairs flanking the fireplace?

This is my favorite style of midcentury fireplace, and yours seems a good example. I wouldn't mess with it, although I agree about the mirror and the wall color...

Clear off everything on mantle/mantel, repaint it with a creamier softer color, on large horizontal mcm print that takes up about 2/3 of the width of the wall in tones similar to the stonework and hang over the fireplace. Put a potted something plant on either side of print. voila, done.

I feel like I want to brighten the stone up, but maybe it's because of the white mantle. Have you tried scrubbing the stone with something like DIrtex?
