Love your little bungalow!! Any light color or neutral would be great, given your warm climate. A porch that spans the entire front elevation would also be a wonderful addition! That will likely result in the foundation planting bed being moved closer to the street. Hopefully, those small boulders are not set in mortar so they can be reused to make new foundation planting beds. And the sod that would be removed could be relocated to the left of the stepping stones with the rest of the front yard being sodded or planted to provide a complete lawn in the front yard. I would also suggest using drought tolerant plants to fill the landscaping beds. Containers are better used on hard scape areas. Good Luck!

Thank you Susan for your input. It's very helpful. We just got rid of the lawn due to our water crisis in California. Our county offers incentives for us to do a low maintenance yard which is very helpful. We are acutally going to landscape the leftside of the yard with a walkway made of pea gravel and add some low maintenance plants to give it life. I do like the idea of a expnading the porch elevation and maybe adding a portico to our front entrance. Do you have any suggestions of neutral colors that would go well with a dark roof?

Your roof looks to be a light grey…are you replacing the roof? (You referenced a dark roof)

Yes we are replacing the roof to a darker color as we are doing an addition to the house.

Seems counterintuitive to have a dark roof in a warm climate. But if you’re set on a dark gray roof, I’d paint the house a very light gray. A light color will keep it cooler and make the house seem bigger. I understand about the water conservation efforts…it would be nice if the front yard treatment could be consistent across the whole yard.
