I think we need to see the setting to make a valid suggestion.

Have you thought about something more simple?

Yes, show photos... and as Beverly asked, do you want a direction that lends toward simpler, transitional in that area?

Yes I need something simple. The rug shown is in the living area. The dining area is on the other side of the room. This is a great room. We are repainting and need to ditch the red rug. Paint will most likely be BM soft cream. Currently have BM desert tan on the walls. Will be replacing the dining room light, repainting kitchen cabinets, new granite, new tile...a whole refresh.

Textured woven jute rug is your best bet. It will add depth and you don't have to worry about the pattern conflicting with your other rug. Beautiful windows and dining area by the way.

What color or shade of jute rug would you suggest? Thank you so much for your advice.

BM Soft Cream or Soft Chamois??

or Natural Cream? (don't see a soft cream) These tend to lean a little more towards the taupe/gray side of white

    this is a nice shade:

Here's beverly's rug choice w/a diff light, and a few of the softer cream colors.

another jute rug and diff light (I like the gold option to compliment the floors and warmer wood) and a few other colors. YOu will have to bring home some samples.

Indian White is similar to Navajo White and Gentle Cream but is slightly less yellow

Was there any thought given to turning the table the long way to match the large window?

Here are natural fiber area rugs in your dining area.

The long window really isn't that long. The DR and LR faces North so thinking BM gentle cream would add a little warmth.

I would not go with a natural fiber rug like sea grass or jute in a dining room. They are NOT forgiving with spills and the movement of chairs across them will lead to fraying. If you like that look, go with one of the fabulous synthetic faux natural fiber rugs that are now available and can be cut and bound or trimmed in fabric to compliment your room. Not natural fiber. (I have had terrible luck with sea grass rugs in a dining area.. First hand experience. )

I had similar to your paint color, and it's refreshing... so a very muted rug would work with it, idea:

We have tried rugs that contain blue. They just didn't work. Maybe because of the north exposure. Thank you all for you suggestions.

You want a new paint color for warmth... do you not like the current warm color?

I guess you don't want blue jute. What other rugs if any have you had? there's several, and the pro's would know more. Idt you'd want the bleached version.

Yes have a samplize of rich cream by BM. It isn't too yellow. What I have now seems dated and a little too yellow. I have had a pair of patterned brown rugs but want something simple. I am not familiar with the faux natural rugs and don't know where to look.

Beverly what is the rug in the last picture under the table?

Curious how long you've had the yellow?

Flat woven wool for a bit more money. Seems might work with both furniture and floor, hard to say... it's called 'gold' but seems like your rug, but lighter. They sell other neutral like beige, etc.

A side thought about a shady room - mercury glass lamp adds a little shimmery look, etc..
