Mixing Carrier Performance and Infinity

I am waiting for my first quote from an HVAC company that services a majority of my street. I’ve only heard great things from neighbors and online reviews, but I was shocked when the salesperson was recommending an infinity air conditioner, performance furnace, and Ecobee thermostat. From my research I wanted the complete infinity line with a variable speed air conditioner, modulating furnace, and required infinity thermostat. I live in the northeast and winters get cold and I absolutely hate feeling warm in the summer.

I am going to get quotes from multiple contractors, but my interaction today has me questioning if this company will be competent or if it was just trying to come in at a lower price?

I would recommend the complete Infinity Series as the air handler and AC or HP are ‘communicating’ and will only work properly with their own proprietary Infinity Thermostat.

@fsq4cw Thank you! That makes a lot more sense to me. I got my quote today and the entire Infinity system with the thermostat is only $825 more. I still have NO idea why a performance furnace was being mixed with an infinity condenser?!

Post the model numbers of the equipment you are comparing. You can buy a 2-stage Performance condenser or a single stage Infinity condenser. If it were me, I may choose the less expensive 2-stage Performance condenser. You need the model numbers to make a good comparison.

Thanks! These are the two models:

Infinity: 59TN6080

Performance: 59TP6080

They seem almost identical from what I saw with comparisons (2 stage and up to 96% AFUE). It looks like the rebate I am eligible for with the entire Infinity system is $650 greater than the Performance/Infinity combo. The total price difference is $1,475, but I would only end up paying $825 more in that scenario.

I need to get a quote on the modulating Infinity furnace (59MN7B) and fully variable AC unit, but didn't want to reach right back out since I have some more appointments lined up.
