Couldn't find the hinges, but these are options.

So after lots of googling, it looks like you want a cantilever hinge. Which is difficult to find--so far I've only found antique ones on Etsy, or furniture-sized ones (for lift-top coffee tables). Check out Lee Valley for a cheaper alternative . I will say these IMO are just a PITA when you are busy in a kitchen ease of use is the first item to deal with .Just like pullout drawers behind doors just poor design .

How are you supposed to access the outer edges of the lower tray? It looks like the hinge doesn't extend far enough to fully expose the lower tray.

Thanks for the ideas, some of the pics that were in the links gave me the answer and it's as simple as some hardwood slats and shoulder bolts
