Heavy Chandelier meets Structural Beam

Hello Everyone

We have a great room, open concept living & dining area under a post & beam vaulted ceiling. The prevous lighting was hung off the drywall, off the beams, and off center for the spaces. In order to center the new lighting over the two respective spaces, living & dining, we need to hang the light off the center of the beam (x2). The quesrion is HOW?

My husband says that a hole drilled vertically down from the roof space through the beam will compromise it's structural integrity. I have read this can be done if the drill is small enough. I have also read of people running the wire down the beam and enclosing it in a channel, painting it out. (that would bug me for eternity).

Has anyone done this before an what method did you use? If you have pictures to go with your reply that woud be most appreciated.

Pictures is the previous chandelier instal and chandelier, the current situation... looks like I might have to add more photos via comments... hmmm...

(We are reinsulating and installing TnG on the ceiling this week,

Thank you. ~ Jean
