Hi all, we are embarking on a renovation of our wide galley kitchen. The kitchen is currently 153” long x 101.5” wide. We are planning on rejiggering a few things and can make it a maximum of 160” long x 138” wide. But we are having trouble figuring out how to structure everything within that because there are three doorways/entries into the kitchen (living room, breakfast room, and dining room).

I’ve sketched out two possible floor plans and would love feedback. These are not exactly to scale but I included lots of details and dimension info so hopefully it’s okay! We are very committed to keeping a separate range and wall oven but would be willing to go down to a 30” range if necessary. Similarly, we’d like to do a 36” fridge but could settle with 30” if needed. Biggest priorities are 1) continuous counter space, 2) half wall/openings onto breakfast room, and 3) making it feasible to have multiple people in the kitchen at once (including a young child). There are also several pieces of the floor plan we would strongly prefer not to move, including 1) the kitchen window and 2) the hall closet.

One last point: My husband would prefer to keep the kitchen narrower (more like 124”, rather than 138”) because that means our dining room stays a bit bigger. To do that with floor plan 1, we would shrink the peninsula from 54” to 40”, which also this reduces the space between counters on the opposite walls from 90” to 76”, which is better but still quite far. But it also means we probably can’t fit the narrow island anymore. To do that with floor plan 2, we’d shrink the doorway to breakfast room and the 1/2 wall landing space from 42” and 32” to 36” and 24”, respectively. And we’d shrink the island and the aisles on either side from 36” wide (island) and 39” wide (aisles) to 28” (island) and 36” (aisles) respectively.

Would love any feedback people have on these ideas or other ways to do this!
