in the original picture of can, i show the e26 connected to a recessed light I was trying (but couldnt stick in to cieling properly due to lack of spring clips on can)

When I remodeled the basement, I abandoned/ removed the old cans and installed those thin canless LCD's that come with the J-box.

Turn the power off to the circuit an then it is a simple matter of disconnecting the can lights and connecting the wires to the J-box of the new light. Most of those lights come with WAGO wiring connectors. WAGOs are fantastic! Super easy to use.

I can take a crack at it - possibly send a video when trying to remove the can and install if any issues. Do you mind sharing the recessed light that you got?

I think using the c-clips (Premium Recessed Light Retrofit C-Clips) as you originally suggested is the way to go. This 40 Pack (20 Pairs) Retrofit Recessed Downlight Housing C Clips is cheaper but might be harder to install as clips don't attach to the bottom of the housing.

People who installed these clips recommended drilling starter holes for the screws. A 90-degree drill adapter might help with drilling inside the housing.

Removing housings as suggested by @ci_lantro could be difficult if they are attached to joists and after removal you'd have to remove the wires from the old housing and attach them to the new lights.

LED retrofits have lenses of varying depths. Examples:

• Shallow: Commercial Electric NS01cA09FR2-259
• Medium depth: Halo RL56069S1EWHR
• Deep: Juno 65BEMW SWW5 90CRI CP6 M2

You might want to get samples to try to see which ones you like and which produce the least glare. The shallower the lens, the more visible the lens will be as you step back from the light. These all have selectable color temperature.

Roney, I did that project 5-6 years ago & I can't find the order at Amazon. I think they were Torchstars but it looks like the current Torchstars do not come with WAGOs. Either the ones that I got then did have WAGOs or I connected them using WAGO splicers. Hope that helps.

Why not just use LED bulbs? wafer lights are proving to burn out, and they have there own flaws, you can simply buy LED bulbs and buy new trim that fit the can you have. I also see a wing nut in there and what appears to be a second housing?

you can buy trims that have a glass cover as well to get a cleaner look or by a par 36 LED that will fill the whole can and give you the look.

Ive put in 100s of wafers and they are not proving to burn out, unless youre buying junk no name brands from amazon.

I recently bought some of these LED retrofits

They have the trim attached and have an adjustable neck. Very easy to install. Just screw it in until the trim is tight to the ceiling.

I was just going to ask the exact same question. Mine look identical and have the same lack of clip issue. Now I am thinking long as I already have good led bulbs, to just replace the cone trim, but not sure the style name. Most I find are more of a cut off cone, I need what Rodney has - the deep cone.

Perhaps this Nicor 17550A baffle trim would work. You just wouldn't use the springs. The 17550A trim is available in several colors (search for the catalog number) but there's also the 17551A and 17552A.
