I like Beverly's suggestion to flip the sectional. I had a tv up high before and it was ok if you lean back in your chair or sofa. Another alternative would be to put a tv on a rolling cabinet beside the fireplace that could be pulled out slightly on an angle when watching tv.

Is your dining room table adjustable? It might be the angle of the photo but it looks a little large for the space. Could it be made smaller for everyday and have two chairs stored elsewhere until needed?

@nelliebean my dining room table is adjustable actually. I can remove two chairs and shrink it down until I need them for holidays and things.

I know I adjusted my dining room table to be smaller in my open living/dining room and it opened up the room quite a bit. Love the visualization Celery posted. Overhead lights would look good in both the dining room and the living room, but if you have to pick just one, go with one in the dining room.

You've received some great suggestions. I think lighting is key. I would eliminate the bare bulb floor lamp by the fireplace and find some attractive lamps with shades. One for the console table, a floor lamp for the lounge chair and a table and lamp for the arm end of the sectional. I would budget to have an electrician come in and move the boob light in the dining room to center over the table once you've reduced its size. Change that to a lovely chandelier. If you can't afford all of that, you can swag a chandy from that connection to a more centered position as in the kitchen below.

Love the blue of your sectional. Flip it as Beverly suggests. Will you have room for an end table - like the above picture - for a lamp? No ceiling light in LR. Put the floor lamp next to the chair. Definitely a chandelier over DR table. The sconces would look nice over the FP but not if you decide to put the TV there.

Wow your front door, window, fireplace, dining room layout looks just like ours but a little smaller. We have our sectional facing the way yours is but in the corner where your chair is we have a cabinet diagonal to the corner with a lift tv in it so you don’t see it unless its in use. We have an overhead light in living room and two can lights in front of the fireplace.

Personally I like the separation the couch gives with the dining room but with your dining table so close it does feel tight. Also we have shutters in window which takes up less room than curtains.
