Floral’s suggestion is certainly a good one as lamb’s quarters/Chenopodium album.

Very possible. They do appear to have the farinose texture of Chenopodium. In the flesh I’d know the difference but pictures are harder.

They look like I've sprinkled them on purpose, so I assume it's papaver. I also tend to rip out weeds all year long, so it's unlikely to have made it to the seed stage if it is chenopdoium. And it's in a more secluded spot. Unless a bird dropped them. The stronger bet is poppy. We'll see. Chenopodium isn't all that rampant in my area. Creeping jenny, plantain, mouse-ear chickweed, henbit, weedy veronica (arvensis?), crab grass, and many different sorts of clover. Oy. These are the bane of my existence.

when dealing with seedlings.. it can make life much easier .. if you start with sterile media ... so when something sprouts.. you are 99% sure whats coming up ....

it also helps to use separate seedling pots ... and just transplant your seedlings at the 4 leaves stage ....

reusing last year pots and media.... is the bane of your existence ... not the weeds .. well both i guess ..

It was a potted up plant, sitting where I thought I might put it in the ground. It had sterile media. I would assume I was tossing seeds, and some flew in there.

I would post a picture, but gardenweb won't let me. It has poppy looking leaves today.
