I would paint the whole room a soft white, same color on ceiling.

change all the black to chrome and paint the vanity white.

A larger beveled frameless mirror and a new light of your choice.

I would… paint the walls a cool dark green maybe vintage vogue Benjamin Moore, easy off the wood vanity and refinish with a matte clear-coat (pls don’t paint, wood cabinets aren’t built the same anymore and are something to show off!), try to find a countertop remnant for the vanity(countertop smart& habitat are my fav’s but I’m not sure how available they are everywhere) wood plank the ceiling running long ways for warmth and sass aaaannd new hardware voila ! Keep the tile I think it would work well! For some reason dark looks good in windowless bathrooms, especially 1/2 dark 1/2 light.

Thank you Lily those sound like cool ideas. I love wood cabinet tones - I was wondering if there was a way to strip it to make a little less orange and have seen the easy off trick. I agree they are pretty good quality. When I went to check new ones out in store I just really wasn’t impressed, and will be spending money on the other bathroom since it will need all new. Thanks!

The two main things outside of painting I see are changing the mirror and the light fixture, that would pull it out of the early 2000's . I would do an oval mirror to break up all the square happening in there. Also, maybe over the toilet shelves to break up that big wall .

Take your whole budget and get glass doors on your tub . You can spend a lot or a little on this change, but in the end you have opened up the space and it will look like a new bath.

I agree with the soft white paint & maybe a larger mirror and light fixture. The room looks so very dark.

Glass doors are nice, unless you need to bathe small children, then they are a PITA. The two ginormous hooks are the things that really catch my eye, not in a good way. And I would upgrade the shower curtain, ordering one that is extra long and having it go from ceiling to floor. Then a new light fixture and mirror.

I think it looks dark bc the ceiling is dark, all the light is being absorbed.
