• You might consider low-iron glass shelves instead of clear-glass shelves to reduce/eliminate the shelves' green edges (Low Iron Glass VS Clear Glass – Which one is better?)
• Perhaps use plastic easels (example) to hold the plates for display.
• You could use LED tape/strip lights in an angled channel. Don't forget an outlet or electrical box for the driver to connect to. Hide the driver in a cabinet.

I prefer wood shelving. You can do LED tap lighting on the front frame and it illuminates the whole cabinet even with the wood shelves. Here's a photo of my dining room built in that I did over 12 years ago.

Beneath that picture is a showroom photo of my Shiloh Display showing glass front cabinet w/ wood shelves. We used 3000K tape light on the front frames.

With wood shelves you can have a piece of molding nailed in place at the back as a 'stop' for dishes and platters you want to stand upright. My hutch came with a groove at the back but it was a custom cabinet line. Molding works too.

Thanks, this cabinet did have wood shelves, but they have already been removed, because we had asked for glass shelving. So, I can't ask to go back now.

This is where I asked our cabinet maker to add a channel for LEDs.

On both sides, all the way from top to bottom for even light.

Update:

We ended up going with two puck lights mounted in the top of the cabinet. They are placed a bit towards the front, so the light shines a bit back into the cabinet. Seems to have worked out pretty well, good enough for us, anyway.
