The hardiness zones ONLY apply to plants being grow outdoors in the ground. Most indoor plants - houseplants - come from tropical climates and can be grown in any indoor situation with adequate lighting.

Houseplants can be found at most larger grocery stores, many retail nurseries and places like Lowe's and Home Depot. Costco is often a great source for larger specimens.

Some very easy to grow selections are pothos, spider plants, philodendrons, cast iron plant, Chinese evergreen and dumb cane.

What kind of plants do you want to grow? Flowering annuals, veggies, tropicals? I think one of the easiest things to do is to go wander a good independent garden center near you. Take note of what you like, take pics with your phone, capture the names. Then ask questions or do some research once you have some ideas.

There are so many wonderous plants and your zone is good for so many. I couldn't dare make a recommendation without more info.

Flowering annuals and vegetables will struggle if attempted to be grown indoors. If you are not an experienced gardener, stick to easy to grow houseplants.

Yes I’m looking for houseplants only. i ventured out and purchased a polka dot plant from the Houzz shop, but its not doing well. ☹️

Yeah, polka dots are not the easiest of houseplants to grow so maybe not the best choice for a beginner. But don't let that stop you! Go out and hunt up one of the plants I suggested. Then come home and research it thoroughly online to learn how best to take care of it; watering needs, light and heat requirements, etc.
