Is there enough floor space in your kitchen to turn the table 180 degrees and place the four chairs only on the long sides? This might be a good temporary solution until you can get a smaller table.

Don't have the measurements of your kitchen but would something like this work to free-up space in your living room? Place the table against the bay window then you can buy a long cushion and decorative pillows...

What about keeping the loveseat in it's original position but pushing it closer to the tv. Is there room then to place the sofa facing the tv and still have enough room between sofa and dining table?

Well…. We are back to the original layout but swapped the loveseat with the couch for now.

Actually, that looks pretty darn good until you can get the right table for your kitchen.

Your last picture shows an improvement on your original furniture layout. You would need a larger rug wether this layout or a futur one, the carpet should at least reach just under the front of the sofa and loveseat.

Well, you can't say we didn't try... Since your space is limited, perhaps eventually you can consider a space saving drop leaf rectangular table to place against the wall and then you'd have your furniture better positioned to watch TV and also more of a conversation area.

The drop leaf table can also serve as a console when you walk-in with a nice mirror or painting above.

Iris, have you tried making an L shape with your sofas? There looks to me like there is plenty of room.

Allow 2-3 feet for walkways.

Push the dining table up against the wall. You can only use 3 sides of it.

Don't forget to screw the cubby into the wall so no one pulls it over!

I noticed that there is a room in the front that is to the right of your entrance door. Wouldn't that make a good dining room? It's steps from the kitchen and looks empty at the moment.

@hue that’s my daughter’s bedroom. The original owners did make it a formal dining room. It’s carpeted, and transitioned to a bedroom.

That’s a lovely rug. I think you need to include more of that blue color in the room by getting covers for your patterned pillows. Here’s just a few ideas.

The rug size is perfect. All you need now is to accessorize bringing in some blue and soft white to soften the sofas. There are lots of great mix & match pillow covers in different patterns available on Amazon, here's one style:

Thanks, I was second guessing whether the rug was too small, still. But, yes, blue accessories are in the works! I’m keeping the dining room as is for now because we prefer it. But, I do have a round table in my shopping list for the kitchen bay window.

Another way to bring in blue is with a nice painting over your fireplace. I came across this photo (peeking at Amanda Smith’s idea books) and immediately thought of your room. Your family photos would look wonderful on another wall hung gallery style.

I like the pillows someone already suggested in a blue similar to what is in the rug and a cream. The drapes look nice. Also, someone suggested a large piece of art over the FP and relocate the family photos, That would make the FP more of a focal point.

Hi, Iris, if the TV can move to the opposite wall, this gives you another arrangement option. I assumed a 6’ x 3’ dining table. I assumed you needed to view TV from 6’ away (optimal distance depends on TV screen size).

@marylut, usually it’s just hubs and I sitting with our backs against the arm of the sofas. @katrina agree, working on the fireplace and family photos into a gallery somewhere else (probably above the dining table).

Add 2 more pairs of white sheers to the big window so they bunch up more (luxury look on a budget), then a white sheer on the door

The toss pillows look good. The picture on the back of the closet seems too high, try lowering it or adding another picture below it.

I love what you’ve done so far. Good choices. I would add another pair of sheers to the front window. What you have now is too skimpy.

The gold and navy and dark gray are making the room feel too hot for summer. For summer, store the gold pillows and pick up the white from rug and striped pillows. I would say get pillow covers for gold ones, but better to vary the pillow sizes (rectangle lumbar, cylinder). IMHO, don’t rush choosing art over mantle…find art that speaks to you both, makes you smile. If a large painting is too hard to move with relocation, consider filling the same amount of space with a grouping in matching frames.

Have the large sofa face the fireplace. Add a larger rug running from the hearth to just under the front legs of the sofa, but don’t buy it until you have settled on a furniture layout. One larger piece of art over the mantel. Love seat in front of the large window. Perhaps place the TV on a slightly lower console cabinet or table. Remove the sign in front of the fireplace. Toys in a toy box. Some drapery panels to frame the large window.

New day, and looking at the last way you arranged the room, it is interesting with new art to come. :)

I like the almond blossom painting! But think the design clashed with the rug. :)
