There's a site-built beam in my exterior wall that looks to made from 4 2x4 studs laminated together width-wise. So it's like 14 inches of framing lumber I would need to drill through to run Romex to add a receptacle. Can I drill a hole the width of one 14/2 wire up through the the 14 inches of wood? If this is a structural beam, will a small hole weaken it's load capacity?
