Where Can I Find Designs for Large Trellis?

I have a long hedge line in my front yard, and I want to plant climbing roses on the sun side of those hedges. I want to have a fence builder put up some enormously high trellis, using fence posts, and then some pattern between the post. Several questions:

1) Where can I find a book filled with trellis designs, specifically for extremely large trellises?

2) For climbing roses specifically, what kind of pattern and wood thickness/spacing should I use between the fence posts? I want to use something that will be easy to tie the roses to, but it also needs to be something that will last and is easy to maintain.

3) I want to have different species of climbing rose, side by side. What is a good width for the Trellis, to support a single plant?

4) How much space should I allow between each trellis, to make the vines of side-by-side plants easier to maintain?

Sorry I do not know any books that meet your requirements but I wanted to let you know a few things.

You should choose any pattern you would enjoy because roses DO NOT hold on to anything. They are not like clematises or any other climbing vine that will climb on their own and need a certain spacing. You have to tie your roses as they grow to whatever support you have created. H.Potter makes all kinds of wonderful decorative wall trellises you can get inspiration from.

I don't know of any books either. Maybe Pinterest?

If you don't have any or much personal experience with climbing roses I would strongly suggest that before you try to design something you spend a little time studying how they grow and how to train them for best flowering. There are others, but Paul Zimmmerman's how to grow roses series would be excellent use of time. He has several that just pertain just to climbers. They are usually short and entertaining. An hour invested and you will be better prepared and I'll bet Paul will have put a smile or two on your face!

@subk3 The point of my doing this post is for others to share the relevant points out of books like this. I just don't have time to read books to reverse engineer what a trellis design should look like.

I looked at Paul's channel and searched on the word trellis. This one was most relevant, but it did not help me select a trellis design:

Do you have a specific style in mind ? Traditional, modern , etc.? i had a rather large trellis / arbor custom built by a handyman at my previous home. i drew up the design & measurements , he replicated it , turned out beautiful.

@K Laurence Ideally I would like something that at least does not conflict with an Italian garden that has statues and concrete pots. So - for example - no Japanese style. If you want to show photos of your trellis I would be happy to look.

In terms of size, I was imagining two fence posts going up maybe 14 feet. Two feet of that gets buried. The rest creates a very high wall of roses.

H. potter is metal but some of the Trellises have more straight lines and things that could probably be done while working with wood. A minimalistic way of having huge climbing roses along an area is by just using the 4x4 as pillars like I learned from Paul Zimmerman’s video. Easy and simple. It should go with any decor once the Pilar is hidden.

@westes Zone, Sorry, I should have taken a photo before I moved. It was a very geometric, modern, simple design. My home was modern as is my current MCM home. I think a simple design would work, let the roses be the star. I’m not a fan of busy trellises, I think the focuse should be on the greenery or flowers, but that’s just what I like.
