I googled "tambour wood panels" and see several sources. It's also possible to have a local millwork company just create the strips in any profile. This might be a good option because they can also create the moulding at the floor level.

Tambour is a style of construction (canvas, slats, and stiles), not a material. That may open up your search. Talk to a custom cabinetmaker about using wood strips (slats) to cover a panel in your island.
