Artificial Turf Base Install

I am looking to install a small strip of artificial turf on a side backyard entrance that is 48'x7' at a 3" depth and I am wondering what to use as my sub base. I had one landscaper come out and say he was only going to lay DG for the entire base and then lay the turf on top. I have read where other people do road base and then DG on top, so I am confused on which is the correct method.

Look at the manufacturer's recommended installation method. The products we spec, the base is similar to a paver base, with compacted gravel. I wouldn't personally do it on DG because I wouldn't want to warranty it, but if they stand by it, it'll be cheaper.

Road base is best. No DG.
