Waht does the pic show that would help us unless that is the style of door you want.That door you show is probably a pivot door and absolutly not appropraite for a colonial house . Show us the exterior drawings of the house and IMO you either do all the same windows style and color everyhwere or you will have amess as to what style the house is. IMO if modern is your style whay on earth are you building a colonial at all.

What has your architect specified for windows and doors?

Please find the attached front elevation.

Front windows are all white double hung Andersen 400 and white trim, siding - James Hardie - Colors Navajo Beige.

The garage is supposed to give a barn effect in front of the house. Hence the small windows.

Architect gave a few options, in the following order for the front door.

1) mahogany wooden door + 2 side lights. (typical traditional door for colonial house)

2) mahogany looking fiberglass door + 2 side lights. (same look as #1 only different material)

3) Slightly towards modern

4) Fully modern (as the house is mix of modern style when we are inside)

The door picture above from CBW WINDOWS & DOORS is almost half the cost of #2 option, that is why I asked. (needless to say #1 is even more expensive). However door picture above is towards modern side.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting I thought of slightly mixing modern touch to colonial, if it would not clash with overall look.

IMO, the extra wide door is throwing off all the symmetry one would expect in this style of home. The only colonial detail seems to be the gable with the octagonal vent/window.

That door would complement the look of our planned modernist home. Colonial, not so much.

So-called "transitional" homes tend to leave the modernizing to the inside while mostly retaining older styles on the exterior, but trimmed down.
