Just wondering - does anyone grow this plant? What kinds of climates?

This plant is new to me. I don't recall ever seeing it before, and had to look it up to find the botanical name. It's pretty!

The site I glanced at said it comes from tropical rainforest, so, probably not suited to the farm's temperate-Mediterranean climate.

Brunfelsia is a lovely bush when it's in full bloom like yours is, Jackie! When I was a teenager, my family lived in Paraguay for 4 years. It was a common plant there in people's gardens and I was very fond of it. In my zone 8 arid climate, I fear it wouldn't fare well, though I've been tempted to try one in a large pot and move it inside for the winter. I don't know if it would thrive that way or not.

It grows all over our town, in the oldest districts in old gardens. It must have been a very popular garden plant at one time. I have even seen old, well maintained hedges of it! I did not realize it was so cold intolerant - we are zone 9/10 here now, depending on local conditions. We had trouble finding a spot for this bush that was just enough but not too much sun. Ended up building it a place to live in a corner sheltered and shaded by our house, with a South Eastern exposure. Likes it there. Now I have to move it away from the house, so the plan is to put it in our new garden on the side which still has shade from a huge bush nearby. We shall see.

This is a very firm zone 9 and above plant. It will not winter over successfully in my borderline climate zone. It also has some major toxicology issues.

gardengal - thanks for mentioning the toxicity - we don't have any dogs, and our three cats only go outside on leashes with us, but one of them likes to eat small blooms, so I will make sure she does not get near Y,T&T. She has not evinced any interest in it so far - I wonder if the cats know something? I understand that dogs do not, and like to eat all sort of things which are poisonous to them.
