I am so sorry to hear about the tragic and traumatizing things you have been through with your pet. It will take time to process the violent circumstances as well as the untimely death of your pet. Please talk to people close to you who may have compassion. Some people are jerks and don’t think it’s a big deal when a pet dies but it can be a huge deal and nothing to be embarrassed about at all.

If you feel like justice needs to be served in this incident you definitely have evidence from the emergency veterinary services you sought out . Not sure if there were any witnesses or if you know who the individual is. Flyers in the neighborhood could be placed and messages on social media. It seems like there are by laws in place to handle violent dogs and neglectful owners if you want to go down that path. You may help save another animal and it’s a way to honor your cat’s life. Contact Animal Control for your area. Almost every state has "dangerous dog laws" and have penalties when these laws are broken. One of the criteria for determination of a dangerous dog is one that "severely injures or kills a domestic animal, which may include livestock, while off the owner's property."

And don't waste any time doing so. Someone else's beloved pet could be at risk as well.

Something similar happened about ten years ago. Two pit bulls barrelled under my fence and got my cat. He didn't make it to the emergency vet. I called animal control and the police. The dogs were taken in. I took my cat to the vet for a statement and for cremation. Court date came and I had to testify. The judge ordered the dogs euthanized and there was a $600 fine for each dog. The judge apologized that the maximum fine that he imposed was too small in his opinion. It didn't bring my cat back, of course, but those dogs never hurt another one.

So sorry for the loss of your beloved Blondie. Such a horrible ordeal that should have been prevented. Follow your heart in holding your neighbor accountable.

i agree with calling animal control and i would also file a formal police report. hopefully, you know who the owner is. this is unforgivable and i'm so sorry for your loss and for what you had to witness.

the dog owner's reaction would lead me to believe this isn't the first time his dog has done something like this. these are the people who give us responsible dog owners a very bad name. they should be ashamed of the pain they cause others!
