Change island covering (tile?)and then backsplash. Then take another look. Cabinets are nice if alder.

I think, after looking further, if you changed the island wall and backsplash that would look like a new kitchen

I would change the backsplash and island to a creamy white. Put a color on the wall that is not such a stark contras to the cabinets, either a gray or green,

You could select a tile from the floor or have stucco applied to the island and limewash this adobe color.

We are having our alder cabinets painted. Our contractor showed us a sample and he has very successfully done them before.

So why can’t you change the floor? Because that is the problem here, IMO.

I agree, the floor is a problem. But I am concerned about the cost.

If it were my kitchen, I’d put the $$ toward the floor first….I just think if you leave the floor and invest in cabinet painting, counters or the island, the floor’s still going to be a problem.

If painting the cabinets, what color are you thinking of?

I would remove the tile on the island, paint a plain colour and then how it looks

I would not be happy with the floor tile layout in front of the fridge: too many light tiles in that row messes up the random pattern. The tile (or wallpaper?) on the island is fighting with the floor tile. The perimeter cabinets look good. Can you reface the island? If not, can it be painted? Does the backsplash tile on the right wall have a pink tinge? If so, I would replace it or remove it, repair and paint the wall.

The island has tiles along the front which I don't like with the floor. Although, I don't like the flooring either. I agree with those who commented that the floor has to go. Maybe I can get that 1200 square foot ripped out and replaced with something more modern and attractive. If I were to paint the cabinets, I am thinking white along the perimeter and blue on the island cabinets.

You have classic and probably very good quality alder cabinets. I would modernize the flooring and do an island with waterfall ends and seating on the long side that we are looking at in the photo.

Do yourself a favor and take the time to price out new flooring. What flooring is in the adjacent area (and throughout the house)?

I cannot tell you how many times people I know have by-passed the obvious problem in a room, only to have to go back and fix it anyway. We are not trying to spend your money but the floor is a huge visual component.

Flooring, backsplash and an island are too busy. Cabinets are ok. You can go with LVT or laminate. Rip off tile and just paint the island. Home Depot has some MDF panels.

Everyone who said get rid of the floor is right. No matter what else we do, that floor will always be an eyesore. The other type of flooring in two bedrooms is dark wood.

Fixing the backsplash alone will go a long way. I’d start there. That will neutralize a lot of the overwhelming feeling. I think it is nice overall and enjoy your new kitchen! ☺️

So if you are going to do the flooring and the bedrooms are dark wood….don’t try to match it. Dark floors in that kitchen will be too much. A picture of the adjoining areas will help if you want advice on flooring options.

I am taking these photos from the listing and realize they are not very helpful for this thread, but here is a picture of the family room floor (wood) which is the same flooring as in much of the house.
