Swap out a window in a door?

This is the service door to my garage - I have glass kilns in the garage that put off some heat - if I have multiple ones going at once it’s not uncommon for my garage to be 85 degrees. I don’t want to crack the garage door because we have tons of rabbits & packrats where I live - I’d just as soon not have those critters sneak in. I’d like to replace the fixed window with one that opens (with a screen) so I can open it instead. Is this possible? Difficult? Or should I be looking for a whole new door. Don’t need the blinds… thanks in advance!

They are made, depending on the brand you have it may be easier to buy an entire new unit as your may not be the same size insert. I am no fan of the brand or buying one from a box store, but here is one available at HD,

I'd also replace it with a good fiberglass door. Do you want the light from the glass in the door? If so, change it is obscure and eliminate the blind.

@east bay 10 - yes, it needs to be a good insulated door (Colorado) - I do like the light it provides and we are in a large lot (4-5 acres) neighborhood so I don’t worry about people peeking in 🙂. Sounds like replacement is the way to go!

Why not just buy a screen door instead of replacing the glass/door?

@suedonim75 - that was a thought - but when it’s really cold in the winter, I just want to be able to crack it to let some of the heat out. But, depending on the cost of a new door, that might be what I do!
