painting all that dark trim in white

I would go with not stark white but soft, some kind beige/tan/ivory.

See if that long trim can be removed. If not paint it to match the brick so it blends. Paint the drain spouts also

I would remove the vertical trim under the windows on left. Paint all trim creamy white. Do an accent color on entryway walls. Remove storm door so entry door can pop with accent color. If budget allows change garage doors, the tiny windows look odd. Nicer landscaping in front should be considered.

Landscaping can easily cover up the crying tears. Paint the Tudor stripes in the gable and entryway the same color as the siding. Remove the grilles in the windows of the garage door. Nice looking house.

On a tight budget, I’d keep the Mock Tudor style/accents. Search for inspiration and ideas using the terms Mock Tudor and Tudor Revival (older era homes than yours, but similar details).

These are all very grand, and mostly Revivals, but there are some nice color combos.

A very similar color ‘70’s Mock Tudor in my town just updated theirs by painting the siding, and all trim in a wonderful taupe color and red front door. It looks great.

Wish we could see this brick up close (plus, we don’t know what’s on the sides and back).

I’d focus most on the landscaping here, it would make a huge difference.

IMO fake tudor is just fake the house is in no way tudor so remove all that fake trim then post a pic in good light so we can see the whole house.

Patricia. It’s a MOCK TUDOR style. No one is saying it’s a real Tudor (England, 16th century).

Mock Tudors are a style in America from the 1970’s. Revivals are usually considered 1920s and beyond.

ETA: Plus, the OP stated they are on a budget and are just looking at the house. No one knows what’s under the trim work, what shape things are in, if there’s more of it on the sides and back. ’Remove it all’ could turn out to be a very expensive undertaking.

Really mock anything is just not good. This home in no way suits that trim and looks like it is just eaxctly what you describe mock tudor trim on a not tudor house These are mock tudor homes not one bit like this home This is at best a ranch house and no amount of trim will ever make it even a mock tudor .

I do understand what you’re saying. I can’t speak for everyone on these boards, but if anyone described a house as 1970’s Tudor, Tudor Revival, or Mock Tudor, everyone I know would automatically know what was being discussed. The terms are often used interchangeably, despite history, but people know.

I will say again, removing the trimwork is not always some easy fix … that you can just pull it off, paint, all good. In houses this age it can be much more complicated than that. Especially on a limited budget.
