IMO Pax is by far the best choice for a wall of closet storage maybe post a to scale plan of your closet so we have a better idea of the space I use Pax for both reach in and walkin closets just beacuse I love all the storage ideas and I like closed storage for many things in a walkin closet too.

My big worry about PAX is all the availability problems I see IKEA is having with them. Here's the plans. There's way more closet wall space than I need to use. I'm planning to just replicate what I have now - 4 drawers with open shelves above, single and double-hanging space (about 5 ft of each) and an enclosed cupboard about 6 ft wide for winter clothes and my husband's suits.

There's also 6 ft of reach-in closet space, which will be my husband's - more than enough for his clothes! :)

Re-upping this in hopes someone has experience with Closet Maid or Closet Evolution from Home Depot? I'll gladly use PAX, of course, if it's available within a reasonable time, but those are my fallback choices.

Any clothes hanging system will take 2 ft for clothes to hang. The layout you have (like all closet layouts) is deceptive w the space. they basically mark 1 foot for shelf/ hanging space . Double it then look at the layout. In reality your closet is too small to have hanging on both sides in half of the closet. The way that it is now will not work. The whole closet layout has to be reconfigured. could you steal space to widen the narrow part to a minimum of 6 feet (even that is tight)? Pax wouldn’t work in your closet (i love pax) theres just not enough space. The long straight wall should have all or most of the hanging. Since your ceiling is high enough, you can do two rows of hanging (long and short) with shelving over for seasonal and other storage. The angled wall may be used for shelving for shoes. Only you know what needs to fit in there. You might want to do a consult with a custom company and see what they suggest for storage.

Thank you both! I have been scratching my head both over the closet configuration and over the IKEA situation since nothing seems to be in stock. Very glad to know Closet Maid is doing the job for you.

I think I have it figured out based on @M Riz's input. I'll have PAX frames etc along the long wall - both 13" hanging and some 24" for drawers and big laundry baskets. In the narrowest section opposite I'll have 13 PAX frames" for shoes, ties, scarves, handbags etc. Then along the approx 5 ft slant wall I'll use Elfa ie: no frame, and will have dual hanging there, and that will let me decide after the fact how much of that 5 ft is usable for hanging. And then after eliminating one of the 2 doors and making it sliding I'll have 4 ft of hanging space on the door wall as well, also for dual hanging - with a PAX 13" frame. Using the elfa with no frame gives me the ounce of versatility I need.

And if PAX isn't available, I'll use Closet Maid now that I know it holds up.

Closet Maid, like IKEA, and a host of other systems you install yourself lasts/holds up much better/longer when installed correctly. Don’t rush, don’t skimp, reinforce when you think it might be needed.

We may have a handyman install it, but my husband grew up on a farm and so is extremely meticulous about everything we install ourselves!

i have used Home Depot pre-pandemic with good experience. However, I ordered a closet last December, and despite 5 visits to my home, they have yet to complete yhe closet. It’s now September! The workmanship is fine, but theirr delivery is extremely disorganized. Meanwhile, I am 8 months without a closet!!!
