That looks like an Elderberry to me. It will outgrow that space in no time.

What type of plants did you order? a Berry type? Did the invoice have your correct plants listed?....just asking so as to avoid that nursery ;-) ....after googling up some EB pics I agree with Floral.

I ordered blackberry plants and the invoice was correct but the plants were not blackberry plants.

The pithy dead stem with its very typical bark, the opposite foliage and the pinnate leaves all say Elder to me. They are incredibly common over here and I’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands.

Thanks anyone. I have them pretty close together as I did not know what they were and got 12 instead of 6 blackberry plants that I ordered and I am not thrilled about this. I really have o use for them and my garden is already over packed.

How did you find the nursery? was it ebay? Any reputable nursery would replace them.

Was isons nursery online and they did replace them. I just could never get them to respond back on what they sent me originally.

Oh, right. I got the impression they didn’t respond to you at all.
