I don't know how big your room is going to be, but I have a fairly large home office (it's under the master, which is why it's large) and I have what you described, recessed in the four corners and a semi-flush center fixture and it's perfect. The window in my room faces north, so it's not great light. I have dimmer switches on the lights (cans switched separately from the center fixture) so it's flexible. I also have a task light on the desk.

I recently remodeled for a professional home office, and I approached it a little differently. Room is approx 12 x 22, with a partial wall that divides each side (so each end is approx 11 x 12'). I did a modern flushmount centered on each side, and a pair of very functional sconces over each of three desks. Added some contemporary track lighting on one end, where I have a wall of shelves, my main work desk, art that needs highlighting. It probably sounds like a lot, but it's flexible, functional, and looks good. I hesitate about the recessed cans in corners. I don't find them terribly functional, personally. To each their own! Have fun with this. Of all the remodels I have done for myself (as opposed to clients), this office was the most rewarding and life changing.
