I think it’s too busy and would look much nicer without the herringbone accent that seems to be fighting with the floor.

The floor is too busy for me. Love subway, but would go with a simpler pattern on floor.

I don’t care for accent tiles in a shower- I like them all the same. The floor tile is certainly interesting, but my eyes can’t focus on it and it’s dizzying 🥴. That said, I’ve seen that tile used in other places but in a different color with less contrast (maybe white, pale grey) and it looked very nice. Individually, your choices are very nice but collectively they’re too much, in my non-pro opinion.

I like it! But pattern attraction/tolerance is such a personal preference and it’s so much easier to play it safe. If you and your husband are on the same page with it, I think you should do it.

I like it but wouldn’t do the contrasting herringbone pattern that is on the wall. I would do, instead, something to bring the floor « in touch » with the wall, like a line of the floor pattern as the accent on the wall or grey/ black pencil tile around the wall, etc. Something to tie the two elements together. Another thing that I look for (in my non-pro eye) is whether the white of the floor and of the wall are the same white and have similar reflectiveness. I personally don’t like this high-gloss wall with the floor tile. That may be just me!! Pls post what you do.

The floor tile makes me dizzy (but i also get carsick on curvy roads). I dont think i could live with that specific tile but i generally think contrast of white subway and dark floor is sharp.

Thanks for all the feedback! Although I think it’s a unique look, most of you confirmed what I was leaning towards. It’s just a little too much. Now to decide on a new floor tile….

Forget about how it comes across to others - do you love it??

How big is your shower area? If it a smaller shower, the impact is not the same for the floors or the wall tile shown in the picture.

Now personally - I love it! So tired of white subway tile and plain white mosaic squares on the floor or the endless marble showers and floors. This is a bit different and a little unique! I don't think it is too busy or over the top - of course - just my opinion.

I think that regarding the 3D cube tile, it’s a really cool look in someone else’s house if you know what I mean. We thought about it, but had some similar questions others had about whether it was too busy or dizzying. I love the marble look as well, but you are right…it is EVERYWHERE! I don’t know that it will look dated down the road because marble is such a beautiful stone. But I do think one might say, oh yeah they designed that bathroom when 12x24 and hex marble look tiles were all the rage. I think it will still be pretty, but dated at the same time. I think a herringbone or basket weave wood look mosaic would be really pretty with the plain subway tile, too. Might go for something along those lines. Thanks for the pro advice!

For something not quite as dizzying but that was still appealing to my geometrically-inclined husband, there's also something like this, which comes in black, white, and gray. Same shape as your tile, just not quite as contrasty (though depending on the grout pick, could lean that way). I nixed this as too modern/trendy for our period-leaning bath, but could work with a more modern palette.
