Towel warmer inside shower

We are renovating our bathroom. We currently have a plug in towel warmer that we love. We’d like to install a hardwired towel warmer inside the new shower on the wall opposite from the shower head.

We travel to Europe and this is the norm in most high end hotels. Regular size tubs with a heated wall mounted towel warmer across from the shower head.

Everyone in the states seems to think we are crazy! Maybe we are 😁

It seems like you will end up with a hot …damp…towel..to dry off with🤷🏼‍♀️

Agreed with @Charles Ross Homes--electricity in showers makes me nervous (though it certainly is used in various contexts). But I would not personally want a shower with electricity involved. More problematically, though, most in-shower towel bars that I've used have had damp towels, so I'm not a fan of towel bars in the shower warm or otherwise. I would put it just outside the shower, where it's easy to reach and out of water's way.

My bathroom reno is getting a hydronic (not electric) towel warmer inside the shower. It is replacing the hot-water baseboard heater currently outside the shower. I already know that the towel won't get wet since I've been hanging my towel on a hook in the shower for some years so I don't have to open the slider and let the warmth out until I'm dry. When I get out of the shower, I hang my towel to dry on a hook outside the shower. The system works well for me.

For me, the main benefit of the hydronic towel warmer is not that it warms towels but that it's rated to warm the whole room. (I loathe baseboard heaters.) The warm towel is just an added bonus.

I agree with others about not having anything electric mounted within a shower space. And, even if you weren't concerned about the possibility of electrocuting yourself if there was ever a fault, I'm not sure it would even pass code.

I lived in europe three years in an apartment and we had towel warmers in each bathroom (not in the shower) and they were heated by radiant hot water and only in winter. this is also true in hotels i stayed at when i traveled regularly for work pre-pandemic. i dont recall any being electric, but thats not to say they dont exist. so i agree to not add an electric appliance inside the shower for safety sake.

Thanks everyone! I believe after further research the ones we have seen in Europe must have been hydronic towel warmers and so not electric.

We're going to have a conversation with our builder and if it's not cost prohibitive, we'll do the hydronic version. If it's more then we want to spend we'll put the warmer outside the shower.

    Thanks for your help!

    Is your heat hydronic?
