Island would need legs to support the top. Plus this is a poor layout with the sink pressed up against a pipe chase. You need a good kitchen designer to help you make better design decisions than just fixing the island. And you need the measurement of the room in back of the island to get and good advice.

You can that without legs, steel stretcher bars and framed as a ladder would work well and allows clear area for the seething. But yes it is too large in my opinion.

I have 48" on two sides of my island (from it to the other cabinets) and 36" on one side. 48" is so much better. You are pushing the limits with your clearances, and if you are doing a total remodel, if it were me, I would be interested in having 48" everywhere. Don't forget that these measurements are from cabinet box edge to cabinet box edge. When you add counter overhangs you lose another couple inches.

Since you're not showing the adjacent room I don't know if you have room for a kitchen table next to the island. If you do, IMO you really don't need more than two stools. That's all I have and it is enough, even when I have four additional people staying overnight because I have a table next to my island.

I don't know what you can do about the plumbing chase - that is a big impediment to a good design.

Yes it's too big. You will want AT LEAST 48" in front of a fridge. Check your fridge specs and make sure it doesn't project from the counter more. Most do, unless that's a built in. Our original plans had 4'-8" between island and fridge, and in actuality the final result is a little over 4'. It feels cramped. You also want at least 42" between counter overhangs, not cabinet face to cabinet face. your aisles are all too narrow.

I also agree about the sink - it is awfully cramped in that space. Is that a window or a doorway?

A 24" sinkbase can fit a 24" undermount sink with a 21" interior width. That much sink is more than adequate for anything you'll wash. You need the extra foot of counter more than an oversized sink. On the very rare times a large sink is needed, the laundry room sink is always there. You need 3 drawer cabs across the interior side of the island. 36" at least.

In a vacuum, no your island is not too big, although many would prefer to have it smaller so that it's not as annoying to walk around. My new kitchen reno has a 122" long island, but I had the space to put 50" of clearance from counter edge to counter edge on each of my aisles. Your aisles are too narrow, you are going to want at least 48" if possible.

It’s too big if it is in the middle of the walkway in the other room, or there’s less than 60” between it’s counter edge and any other seating behind it, or any ine of a dozen possible scenarios. Post the whole floor plan showing the adjacent rooms that the kitchen is trying to swallow. It already swallowed the breakfast room, so there better be a nice size and connected dining room adjacent.

The general advice is to make a kitchen island at least 3.3 feet wide and 4.9 feet long. But it`s needed to correlate with the size of the kitchen as a whole, of course.

It's not too big but the aisles are a little tight. I'd shrink it because of that.

Keep the big sink. The laundry room sink isn't always there.

The size of the island is the least of the problems. Aisle width and sink location are much bigger issues. This looks like a layout devised by a cabinet supplier. Strongly suggest a licensed kitchen designer get involved.

It's not too big at all, but the staggered depth is weird and ugly and would turn me off so much as a buyer. Make it the same depth the whole way please.
