That’s the worst part. I don’t know. They weren’t on it when the slab was purchased, I’m sure. Probably either the fabricator or one of the many people working in the kitchen while the remodel was being finished

We had black tempal installed a couple of months ago and have the same issues. If my kid touches the counter top it stains, water marks everywhere, and more. I use Soft Scrub with bleach once a week and it looks new again. However, to have a kitchen countertop that won’t wipe clean from fingerprints with just soap and water is ridiculous. We’re very unhappy with the product. We ordered some samples and are going to test Tenax Quartz Toner to see if we like the effect.

Agreed. I don’t even have kids and I’m finding them hard to keep clean. I don’t know if after multiple times of cleaning they are becoming less prone or if I’m just getting used to wiping it every.single.time water gets on it. I do think they are beautiful though.

i just treated our black tempal with tenax quartz toner, and I wish I had done it sooner!!! Yes, it darkens the counter tops, but the overall result is amazing. No more constant water marks or oil stains! I dont know how often we’ll have to treat it, but so far its definity worth it. Very easy to apply.

is the toner something you will need to apply regularly? would you mind posting a pic of how the quartz looks since you applied the toner? thanks!!

I applied the toner about 6 months ago and have been very happy with the counter tops ever since. I have no idea how often it will need to be reapplied, but its holding

up great so far. That said, had I known that I would need to apply a toner to make the countertops more user friendly, I probably wouldn’t have chosen it. It is significantly darker with the toner. Black rather than grey. (sorry, I tried to attach photos but it disnt seem to work)

@Julie Northup Monasteriothanks for the input! defisnitely dont want the counter darker than it already is, so good info. curious what you did for backsplash and cabinets if you dont mind sharing.

We chose white oak slab cabinets and turquoise zellige tile. You can see how dark the countertops are after treating with tenax in the photo. (It worked to post a photo this time!)

Can you please take some more photos of countertops post-tenax? We're getting close to pulling the trigger. Maybe some shots from above so I can see how maybe the detail has changed versus untreated shots from this and other threads? Really appreciate it.

I've read all the related threads on this site, but am looking for as much info as I can get before we order.

I actually ordered some samples before I treated with tenax. Here’s a photo with the untreated sample (on the left) next to the treated sample, and a couple of photos with the untreated sample on our treated counter top. I cannot stress enough how difficult it was to clean before treating with tenax. Soap and water wouldn’t wash away handprints or smudges. I could get the counter tops looking good again only if I used Soft Scrub, and even then it was some work. Good luck!

Would you say that after following the Tenax treatment that effort associated with maintenance and regular cleaning is in line with what you'd expect from other surfaces and/or finishes? If so, I think you just closed the deal for me! How about water stains, fingerprints, smudges, etc?

What product(s) are you using to clean daily? Soapy water? Water & denatured alcohol mix?

@Julie Northup Monasteriowow..the tenax really did make the stone much darker. thank you so much for sharing! What finish did you have done on your white oad cabinets?

I dont know the specifics, but it‘s a natural finish (not a colored stain) .

After treating with tenax the counter tops behave as I would expect a high use counter top to behave. I clean daily with just soap and water and it does the trick. Finger prints and smudges are no longer an issue!
