Blooming today in Indiana

We still have a few blooms worth looking at, thanks to Bob and his relentless watering. We have three sprinklers going about 18 hours a day. He turns them off in the morning so we can look at the flowers and then turns them back on after lunch. He had the foresight to put in a well out near the daylilies. We could never water them with the water coming from the house.

We picked up Red Lobster cheap at Jamie Gossard's place a couple of years ago on the northern Mecca tours. We didn't know if it would like our climate, but it is doing well.

Auriel Dell is a small daylily on a robust plant.

Klaatu Barada Nikto is the kind of daylily Bob likes.

Illinois Jacquet Flies Again is enormous.

Mayan Dark Eyes was a gift from the hybridizer to our daughter.

Now for some seedlings . . .

It was a good day for eyed daylilies. This is Abilene Lillian X Cherry Pie a la Mode.

This is Works for Me X Cherry Pie a la Mode.

I was surprised that this is Ashwood Summer Sunshine X Bodacious Bite. It didn't expect the color to be dark in the eye. Then I remember that Clarification, which has a dark eye, is a grandparent. Like A. S. Sunshine, it is a big flower.

We are happy with this one. It is Fooled Me X Rocky Top. It resembles Rocky Top with more vivid color and better sepals. I hope it continues to do the pinching thing. The scape is tall and branched too. So it got its blue ribbon today (that's the way we mark the keepers out of the seedling bed--blue flagging tape).

I like the color of Snidely Whiplash X Tom Adams.

Here's another dark one--Purple Peek-a-boo X Burning the Midnight Oil.

This is a small tetraploid. I love it! Spacecoast Color Scheme X Rosemary Mussar.

Here is one of Bob's Fulva crosses--Fulva Yunnan X Samsational. He likes the fact it is a reverse bitone.

Another Fulva cross he likes--Bass Gibson X F. Yunnan X Unknown.

Fooled Me X Rocky Top.has quite the color and form, I agree aboutthe color of Snidely Whiplash X Tom Adams. being really pretty. Snidely Whiplash X Tom Adams. has some of Samsational color.

I love the Fooled Me X Rocky Top baby….I also like the pinched petals and the marking on the sepals. Bob’s Fulva Yunnan X Samsational hit the mark, it is lovely.

The seedlings win today!! The Rocky Top looks like velvet on the red coloring! The Abilene Lillian is so pretty and i like the coloring on the Works For Me seedling.

Abilene Lillian X Cherry Pie a la Mode looks fantastic! I love the colors and the ruffled edge. It looks like it has an inner and outer eye too! Fooled Me X Rocky Top is impressive too. I like the pinched crispate form!

With all the yellow/orange seedlings you have created it's good to see some pretty purples. I think your Snidely and Peek A Boo seedlings steal the show this time around, although I wouldn't turn my nose up at the yellow Fooled Me seedling if it kept the pinched effect. Oddly enough, although not my favorite form, the pinched petals appeal to me if they are symmetrical and the petals have substance. A lot to ask for I'm sure............Maryl

Maryl, it's interesting that when Bob walks the dog early in the morning before work, the Fooled Me seedling doesn't show the pinching. By the time I get out, all three petals are pinched. I don't know if that characteristic affects its registration (if that happens) as a pinched crispate.

Nan - A lot pinched crispates don't pinch until the sun shines on them. If they pinch most of the day, you can register it as such.
