Sometimes it's good to see what others have done. What's with the Spanish candelier? It's a split level and it's naturally contemporary in style.

Adding texture to the wall with batten strips could be interesting.

Adding a wainscoting could cut the height of the walls visually

A shelf and mirror or hooks and bench like you see below is an option also.

I don't think the walls should remain simply white.

@BeverlyFLADeziner why is it contemporary in style? The outside of the home, to me, leans toward a spanish look - and thats what I’m trying to go with and the design I prefer… I do plan to change out the stair railings and exterior door too. I’ll attach a photo of the front.

It might be a good idea to look at other entryways similar to yours. It seems like the painting might work on the walls to the right of the door, however we would need more images to help more. Please see our designs here for more ideas:
