We have a frame TV over our fireplace. As long as you have a way to run the cable so it's unobtrusive, it looks just like a piece of art. We bought the frame (which needs to be purchased separately) from deco frames.

Don't put a huge TV there unless you don't care about proportion.

If you are keeping the hearth, I would try to get brick to match. If you don't have a tech tube, create something above the fireplace to run cables (shiplap/paneling).

if this is a tv its too big the scale doesn't look right.

I recommend keeping the whole fireplace very neutral and simple. I would use stone or quartz on the fireplace surround, it's more money put very rich looking and will stay with the trends longer, even marble is good. Above the mantel, I would paint it a darker colour of whatever you pick for the living room walls. You won't see much of that wall anyway once the TV is mounted, so why pay a lot for something you won't see? This will all be very cohesive light and fresh. Be careful of too much design in the quartz or tile you put on the fireplace surround, you can get marble in tile as well. The farmhouse tiles are on the way out and it will date very fast.
